Medieval Charm & Ancient Wonders – Departing from Messina
The tour starts from Messina, the ancient "gateway to Sicily," a city of history, legends, traditions, and modernity. Traveling along the scenic road that skirts the sickle-shaped natural harbor, we'll head to two of the region's wonders: Savoca, authentic and rich in history, and Taormina, lively and elegant, a perfect balance between past and present.
The first stop on the tour is the charming medieval village of Savoca, where time seems to have stood still. Strolling through narrow streets, medieval churches, and a quiet, evocative atmosphere, we'll discover a genuine Sicily rich in memories. Savoca became famous in 1972 as the setting for one of the most iconic films in the history of international cinema, The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola. During the visit you will walk through the places that were the backdrop to the love story between Michael Corleone and Apollonia, you will visit the Vitelli Bar, where Michael asked for the young girl's hand, and the Church of Santa Lucia, chosen for their wedding scene.
The tour continues towards Taormina, a city that in recent years has further increased its international fame thanks to the second season of the American TV series The White Lotus. Crossing the historic Porta Catania arch, we will immerse ourselves in the rich history of the historic center. The visit includes the magnificent Greek Theatre of Taormina (ticket not included), a masterpiece of ancient engineering famous for its breathtaking views of Mount Etna and the sea.
We will continue towards the enchanting Florence Trevelyan Public Garden, a green oasis with an exotic charm that belonged to an English noblewoman linked to the court of Queen Victoria, who moved to Sicily after a scandal involving her in England. Subsequently, walking along Corso Umberto, the main street and ancient decumanus of the city, you will be surrounded by elegant boutiques, lively cafes, picturesque alleys and historic buildings that preserve the true essence of Taormina.
By car we will reach an exclusive panoramic point, unique for admiring and photographing the famous Isola Bella (Beautiful Island), one of the most iconic views of eastern Sicily, leaving you with an unforgettable memory of the beauty of the area.
After visiting Taormina, we'll return to Messina. If you wish, you can marvel at the historic center, especially the bell tower. Messina Cathedral, which houses one of the largest and most complex mechanical and astronomical clocks in Europe. At the end of the day, return to the starting point with the memories of an experience rich in emotion, combining cinema, history, and Sicilian landscapes.
